  • How to Use Instagram’s New App, Hyperlapse, to Wow Your Fans

Savvy businesses are already taking advantage of all that Instagram has to offer in terms of connecting with their online audiences. By posting glimpses of behind-the-scenes fun, tantalizing new product teases and demos, photos from live events, and other quick snapshots, companies are able to make their brands seem more relatable. This is an invaluable asset in developing relationships with online audience members. Now Instagram has added another tool to the mix, and it’s one that offers many intriguing possibilities for online marketing. Their new app, Hyperlapse, is actually not a part of Instagram itself, but rather a separate entity, for now available only on iPhones (though an Android version is reportedly in the works). So what does this new app do? It transforms cell phones into video cameras – but that’s not the half of it! Through the ingenious use of a phone’s gyroscope, it automatically edits any video made for stability. In other words, a person could literally jog down the street, filming as they went, and the video would come out looking as if it had been made using one of those smooth Hollywood camera gliders – no Blair Witch Project effects here! • 15 Instagram Marketing Tips

Most businesses are pretty familiar with the gold standards of social media marketing: Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, LinkedIn, and even Pinterest. But Instagram is one of those relative newcomers to the scene, embraced whole-heartedly by consumers, but still not quite one of the “big ones” as far as marketing is concerned. That’s all starting to change now, though. • MZ Weekly News Round-Up: The Science of Rankings and Instagram’s Milestone

SEO: Earlier this week, Google’s head of search spam tweeted a surprising tip about SEO: “no need to delete your old disavow links file before uploading a new one. You can just upload the new one.” The reason, apparently, is because when an old disavow file is deleted and a new one is uploaded, two emails are generated to the Google team, which may be confusing when they review manual actions. In light of Google’s recent announcements about search engine penalties, it would be wise to heed this new advice. Related to the penalty news, Google took the time to answer questions regarding the consequences for SEO spam. First, the team clarified that webmasters who are targeted manually by the Google webspam team will be notified in Webmaster Tools. Additionally, a fall in the rankings is not necessarily indicative of a penalty: there may be an implementation of algorithmic tweakings which benefit certain websites for the purpose of refreshing the ranking priorities for Google’s index. On the other hand, there are also cases in which websites will drop in the rankings simply because the competition is doing a better job at influencing their own rankings. Google claims they are not…

When Facebook acquired Instagram for $1 billion earlier this year, many wondered whether the mobile photo app was worth the price it commanded.  But in the month that followed, Instagram exploded from a niche iOS photo-sharing social app to a platform on both iOS and Android devices that boasts over 100 million users. As the community grows and the application gains mainstream popularity, businesses are increasingly recognizing Instagram’s unique and creative visual features as a powerful asset to their social media marketing efforts.  Here are some tips to creating valuable content to help gain visibility and engage with fans on Instagram. Remember: Visual Interest is Everything There are countless services out there right now that allow users to store and share their images. What sets Instagram apart – and what has made it so popular – are the features that turn everyday snapshots into unique, interesting, and even artistic photography. On Instagram, the image doesn’t supplement the content; the image is the content. Users are largely interested in content with high aesthetic appeal. Don’t be afraid to play with lighting or perspective, or to make liberal use of the (appropriate) photo filters. Uninteresting content need not apply. Get Creative With…
